Campaigning Ends For 2nd Phase Of Polling In UP, Single Day Voting In Goa And Uttarakhand

Campaigning ended on Saturday evening for the second phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh, and single phase of voting in the hilly state of Uttarakhand and the coastal state of Goa assembly where voting is to be held on February 14.

In the most populous state of U.P. where first phase of polling was held on February 10, during the second phase there will be 586 candidates in the field for 55 Assembly seats. In the first phase of voting in Jat dominated Western U.P. on February 10, voting turnout of nearly 60 per cent was recorded on 58 assembly seats.

The second phase of voting in U.P. will witness voting in assembly constituencies spread over nine districts — Saharanpur, Bijnor, Amroha, Sambhal, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Badaun, and Shajahanpur.

For the single phase of polling in Goa, 301 candidates are in the fray for 40 seats where top leaders of the BJP, Congress, Trinamool Congress and Aam Aadmi Party have been making efforts to woo the voters. In Uttarakhand, 632 candidates are contesting for 70 seats. Both the states have BJP governments in power.

Among star campaigners in both Goa and Uttarakhand were Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and party’s former president Rahul Gandhi.
