The world has passed the milestone of six million confirmed coronavirus cases, with over 6.1 million confirmed infections worldwide, including 371,995 deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins University tracker.
Here are the top 10 global developments this morning:
1. Brazil has reported 16,409 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, bringing its total number of infected cases to 514,849 – the second highest caseload in the world.
2. The Chinese city of Wuhan – where the coronavirus first emerged – reported no new asymptomatic cases on Sunday. While China has recorded 16 new cases on Sunday – all of which were imported – up from just 2 cases the day before.
3. The US has sent Brazil two million doses of hydroxychloroquine, the unproven drug that was touted by US President Trump. The WHO recently suspended clinical trials of the drug over safety concerns

4. Metro Manila, the capital region of the Philippines, has finally eased a lockdown that has been in place since mid-March. More people will be allowed to work and shops will reopen – though many restrictions are still in place
5. Shopping malls and parks to reopen in Moscow, an epicentre of the Covid-19 outbreak in Russia, after authorities relaxed the lockdown norms. The relaxation comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the Covid-19 outbreak has passed its peak in the country.
6. The United States recorded 598 coronavirus deaths on Sunday, bringing its total to 104,356 since the global pandemic began, according to a tally kept by Johns Hopkins University.
7. Spain’s prime minister said on Sunday the country needed 15 more days of lockdown until June 21 “to finish with the pandemic once and for all”, and he would ask parliament to approve a final two-week extension to the stay home rule.
8. Saudi Arabia has reopened its mosques after a two-month closure. Worshippers were required to take their own prayer mats and face masks and stand two metres apart.
9. Bangladesh lifted its coronavirus lockdown Sunday, with millions heading back to work in densely populated cities and towns even as the country logged a record spike in deaths and new infections.
10. Japan is considering re-opening its borders to travellers from selected countries which have low levels of coronavirus infections, as it begins to ease restrictions put in place earlier this year to control the outbreak, Reuters reported.
