Don’t believe this viral message about 24×7 free ride scheme for women

A viral message is doing rounds on social media which claims that police has launched free ride scheme where any woman who is alone & not able to find vehicle to get home between 10 PM – 6 AM can call police helpline nos (1091 and 7837018555).

Users on Twitter are also sharing the same message

NewsMobile fact-checked the above viral claim and found it to be misleading.

On Sunday, 1 December, the free ride scheme, with the helpline numbers 1091 and 7837018555, was initiated by Ludhiana Police in Punjab to prevent crime against women.

Nagpur Police in Maharashtra, as well, has started a free drop service for women with one of the helpline numbers being 1091.

In conclusion, the above mentioned information proves that the message is misleading and is not applicable for the whole of India.
