Girish Chandra Murmu, RK Mathur sworn in as Lt Governors of J&K and Ladakh

Girish Chandra Murmu and RK Mathur were sworn in as Lieutenant Governors of the two newly created Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh respectively.

They were administered the oath of office and sworn in by the Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Gita Mittal.

Murmu, a former IAS officer of the 1985 batch-Gujarat Cadre was sworn in at the Raj Bhavan in Sri Nagar. He has been the Secretary, Department of Expenditure, Union Finance Ministry. He was also the Principal Secretary to Narendra Modi earlier during the latter’s tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

RK Mathur is a retired IAS officer of 1977 batch. He belongs to the Tripura-Manipur cadre. He has served as the Chief Secretary of Tripura, Defence Secretary and has also been the Chief Information Commissioner of the Central Information Commission. He has been sworn in at the Sindhu Sanskriti Auditorium in Tisuru.

The Jammu and Kashmir (Reorganization) Act 2019 divided the former state of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. This division came into effect on October 31st, 2019.
