This picture of an old man is NOT from CAA protest; here’s the truth behind the viral picture

A picture of an aged man has gone viral on social media in which he can be seen throwing a stone. It has been claimed that this particular picture is from one of the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019.

The caption in Hindi Read: “रहमान चचा 500 रु लेकर पत्थर फेंकने गये थे…. यूपी पुलिस ने उन्हें 1,50,000 का नोटिस भेज दिया” 

(Translation: “Rehman Uncle went to throw stones for Rs 500…. UP police sent him notice of Rs 1,50,000”)

At the time of filing this report, the above post was shared by over 5,400 Facebook users.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral picture and found it to be old.

On putting the picture through Reverse Image Search, we found several articles and tweets which featured the same picture.

We came across a Blog Post dated November 27th, 2016 which had featured the same picture.

NewsMobile could not independently verify the exact time and place of the picture, but the above information proves that the viral picture is old and it is not from the recent protests over CAA.
