SC asks CBI to complete probe into Unnao rape case in 45 days

New Delhi: In the latest development in the Unnao rape case, the Supreme Court on Thursday transferred all five cases linked to the rape of a teenager in Uttar Pradesh – allegedly by a now-expelled BJP lawmaker Kuldeep Sengar – out of the state to Delhi.

The apex court also directed the Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh government to pay a compensation of Rs. 25 lakh to the survivor by Friday.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi has asked CBI to complete the probe into the car crash in seven days and the rape case in 45 days.

The teenager, her family and her lawyer have been given immediate protection by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Meanwhile, the BJP has expelled Kuldeep Sengar from the party.

The case returned to the headlines after the teen rape survivor, her two aunts and her lawyer were travelling from Unnao to Raebareli when a truck with its number plate wiped rammed their car on Sunday.

The driver of the truck and its owner have been arrested.

The victim had said that she was allegedly sexually assaulted by the politician when she went to his home to seek a job in 2017.

Her father died in custody, arrested for allegedly possessing illegal arms. Before the arrest, he was beaten up by Atul Sengar, the brother of Kuldeep Sengar, and his men. Atul Sengar has also been arrested and accused of murder.
