Parliamentary panel on IT summons Twitter, govt officials

The issue of safeguarding citizens’ right on social media platforms is one of the prime concerns now and the parliamentary panel on information technology (IT) has summoned Twitter officials over the issue, its head Anurag Thakur said on Tuesday.

The panel has also called representatives of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) to appear before it on the issue during its meeting, which is scheduled for February 11.

Thakur tweeted the agenda of the panel’s meeting to be held next week, saying the panel has called representatives of Twitter to appear before the panel on the issue.

He also sought views and suggestions from the general public on the matter. This developmemt comes from the incidents of misuse of social media, including the foul language used which violate the social media community norms.
