#MeToo: BCCI chief Rahul Johri given clean chit in sexual harassment case

The Committee of Administrators (CoA) on Wednesday cleared BCCI chief Rahul Johri Of the sexual harassment allegations against him and said he is free to resume his office.

The three-member probe panel, appointed by the chairman of Supreme Court, leveled the charges against Johri saying that the charges are ‘ mischievous and fabricated.’

Johri is now free to resume his office after three weeks of force leave, with a probability of ‘gender sensitivity counselling.’

However, the members of the CoA were not in agreement while making the decision. While chairman Vinod Rai approved of Johri resuming his duties, Diana Edulji demanded his resignation on the basis of some recommendations.

“The allegations of sexual harassment in the office or elsewhere are false, baseless and have been fabricated and manufactured with an ulterior motive to harm Mr. Rahul Johri,” head of the probe committee Justice (Retd) Rakesh Sharma said.

The allegation against Johri surfaced after a Twitter handle shared an anonymous e-mail accusing him of sexual misconduct.

Following which, two more women alleged Johri of sexual harassment. Both women deposed via Skype, along with BCCI’s former Anti-Corruption Unit chief Neeraj Kumar, BCCI treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry, IPL petitioner Aditya Verma, and former Mumbai captain Shishir Hattangadi.
