Doctor couple helps a foreign national to unite with his family

Gurugram: A doctor couple managed to unite a Yemen national with his family beating all odds. On April 18, an ambulance of Haryana government got a call about a person lying on roadside near Kadarpur, Gurugram.

Subsequently, he was shifted to Civil Hospital Gurugram, where he was attended by Dr Yogender and it came to notice that he had undergone major neurosurgical surgeries in the recent past. Due to the language barrier, he was unable to communicate.

Due to his hyper-anxious behaviour, the Hospital Authorities considered him as a psychiatric patient. Local police and civil administration were informed to trace his family.

On April 21, the patient wrote something, which the doctor shared with an Urdu translator and it turned out that it was the Arabic language.

With this, he was identified as Yusuf of Yemen nationality. Further Efforts were made by the doctors to locate the concerned Embassy but it went unanswered. He then sought help from his wife Dr Saroj employed in a CGHS dispensary.

Screening the patients’ list, she got in touch with SHO Greater Kailash, who reached out to embassy which was closed.

A guard shared the number of one of the officials and he was contacted and after two days Yusuf’s family was traced. It was revealed that he had lost his passport and was on medical tourism here when got stuck in lockdown. The family had even raised a missing complaint.

The Yemen Embassy issued a letter of thanks to the Delhi Police and the doctor couple.

“I would like to thank you and Delhi Police and salute your efforts in helping us to unite the young Yemen citizen to his family members, with the help of SHO Greater Kailash and Ct Hawa Singh and sustained endeavour. We would have been totally clueless to contact Yemen embassy, really our deepest gratitude and thanks to you and your team to match the thoughts for an individual being united with his family members in a foreign nation and keeping the flag of our nation flying high, ‘Atithi Devo bhava’ has truly come true. Thanks, Dr Yogender Singh in charge causality, Civil Hospital, Gurugram. and Dr Saroj Yadav,” read the letter.
