In a Police complaint filed by Bombay Municipal Corporation(BMC), Bollywood actor Sonu Sood has been accused of converting a six storeyed residential building into a hotel without getting necessary permissions. The actor however denies these allegations. Sood says he has the necessary permissions, but is awaiting clearance from Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA).
The BMC has directed Juhu Police to take cognizance against Sood under the Maharashtra Region and Town Planning (MRTP) Act for illegally building a hotel. Sood had converted the six-storey Shakti Sagar residential building in Juhu into a quarantine facility for medical professionals at the start of the lockdown in India following the COVID-19 pandemic.

The complaint says, “It has been found that Sonu Sood has instituted/commenced/undertaken/carried out development or changed the user of land. Unauthorised addition/alterations beyond the approved plan and unauthorised change of user from residential to residential hotel building without taking technical sanction from competent authority.”

The complaint states that 47 year old Sood carried on with the illegal development of the building despite a notice being served on him. The actor had then approached the city civil court in October 2019 against the notice but had not been granted any interim relief.
Sonu Sood was applauded for helping a large number of migrant workers who were stranded and reached out to the actor. Migrant workers were able to return home during the lockdown as the actor helped by hiring buses from Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra.
The actor later received several awards for his efforts during the pandemic and went on to launch a toll-free helpline number to help those who were stranded during the lockdown and needed assistance.
The BJP has said like actress Kangana Ranaut and demolishing her office, now Sood was being targeted by BMC.
