FACT CHECK
NewsMobile did a fact-check and found the claim to be fake.
We scrolled through the tweets of Google India and found no such announcement that hosts will know about the apps being used by participants in the background.
We also noticed that the original tweets done by Google India have TweetDeck written in grey colour, while, the ones that have gone viral is of blue colour and instead read, ‘TwitterDeck’.
We also read about the new features added to Google Meet on the Help Centre page of Google Meet but found no such details. No such additional features were mentioned under the category of new features and enhancements available in Google Meet.
Moreover, since such a feature would raise a lot of privacy concerns, it would have made headlines, but upon searching, we did not find any credible media report to substantiate the viral claim.
Hence, it can be concluded that no such features have been introduced by Google Meet.
