Siraj Donates Player Of The Match Cash Prize To Ground Staff; Wins Hearts

New Delhi: Team India’s fast bowler, Mohammed Siraj, who wreaked havoc on the Sri Lankan opening lineup, once again won hearts with his gesture. Siraj dedicated his Player of the Match award to the ground staff and generously donated his cash prize of $5000 to them during the Asia Cup Final in Colombo.

“This cash prize goes to the groundsmen. This tournament wouldn’t have been possible without them,” Siraj said.

Throughout the tournament, the dedicated ground staff displayed unwavering commitment, especially in the face of numerous rain-related disruptions. Their resilience and hard work ensured that the matches proceeded seamlessly, providing optimal conditions for the players.

Earlier, Siraj left the Sri Lankan side in shambles. His performance was nothing short of spectacular, as he claimed an astonishing six-wicket haul, conceding just 21 runs in seven overs. His performance ranks as the second-best by a bowler in the Asia Cup finals, with four of those six wickets falling in a single over. Also, his personal best figures in ODI

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have also declared a commendable cash reward of USD 50,000 for the diligent curators and ground staff stationed at Colombo and Kandy.

ACC and Board of Control for Cricket in India President Jay Shah expressed his appreciation on X (formerly known as Twitter), commending the ground staff for their dedicated work. He also announced a cash prize, recognising them as the “Unsung Heroes of Cricket.”

“Big Shoutout to the Unsung Heroes of Cricket! The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) are proud to announce a well-deserved prize money of USD 50,000 for the dedicated curators and groundsmen at Colombo and Kandy,” said Shah.

“Their unwavering commitment and hard work made the Asia Cup 2023 an unforgettable spectacle. From pitch perfection to lush outfields, they ensured the stage was set for thrilling cricket action. This recognition highlights the critical role these individuals play in cricket’s success. Let’s celebrate and honour their yeoman services!” Shah added.
