Adheenams Present PM Modi With ‘Sengol’ Ahead Of The New Parliament Inauguration

Date:

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a significant symbol of reverence on the eve of the inauguration of the new Parliament building. The sacred sceptre known as ‘Sengol’ was presented to him by the Adheenams (priests) at the Prime Minister’s residence.

The Adheenams from Dharmapuram and Thiruvavaduthurai travelled to the capital ahead of the opening of the new Parliament building.

Their visit held special significance as, during Sunday’s inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will place the historic and revered artefact, “Sengol,” within the walls of the Parliament House.

Home Minister Amit Shah had stated that the sacred sceptre “Sengol” represents the handover of power from the British to India.

The Thiruvavaduthurai Aadheenam expressed great delight on behalf of Tamil Nadu, highlighting the placement of Sengol, a representation of justice, in the new Parliament structure.

Ambalavana Desiga Paramachariya Swamigal of Thiruvavaduthurai Aadheenam said, “Lord Mountbatten got the Sengol, and it was given to former PM Jawaharlal Nehru in 1947. It’s good that PM Modi will place Sengol in the new Parliament. We are going to Delhi, and we’ll be giving it to the PM.”

The Home Minister unveiled on Wednesday a special website (sengol1947.ignca.gov.in) that provides extensive information on Sengol. He said, We want the people of India to see this and learn about this historic event during the launch of the website.
