Pakistan Court Indicts Former PM Imran Khan In Toshakhana Case

Date:

Islamabad: A Pakistani court on Wednesday indicted Imran Khan in the Toshakhana corruption case, in fresh trouble for the Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief and former Pakistan Prime Minister.

As per reports, he has been accused of buying gifts, including an expensive Graff wristwatch, which he received as the premier at a discounted price from the state depository called Toshakhana, and selling them for profit.

Khan was arrested by paramilitary Rangers a day earlier from the Islamabad High Court premises.

Earlier, the Pakistan army was deployed in Punjab, Pakistan to maintain law and peace following the arrest of Khan, reported Pakistani media.

Pakistan’s Interior Ministry stated in an official order “Federal Government, in the exercise of the powers conferred under Article 245 of the Constitution and Section 4 (3) (ii) of Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 (to discharge such functions as specified in the said act), is pleased to authorize the deployment of Pakistan Army troops/assets for maintaining law and order situation across the Punjab province in aid of civil power,”

This comes after a hearing was underway at a special location where Imran Khan is in custody.

Khan was taken into custody by Pakistan Rangers on Tuesday outside the Islamabad High Court after the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) issued a warrant for his arrest.

People all over Pakistan took to the roads to protest his arrest.

Section 144 was imposed in Punjab and Balochistan on Tuesday in response to protests across Pakistan against the arrest of Khan.

Internet services have been suspended in many parts of Pakistan following Khan’s arrest. PTI party members took to Twitter and criticised the current Pakistani government, describing Khan’s arrest as illegal.

Imran Khan, along with others, has been accused of allegedly adjusting £190 million, equivalent to 50 billion Pakistani rupees at the time, sent by Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to the government.

PTI chief on Tuesday said in a video before his arrest that there is no case against him and further stated that he is mentally prepared and not afraid to go to jail.
