A video showing three people open firing in the night is widely circulated on social media. Many users have claimed it is from the ongoing violence in Manipur, blaming PM Modi for the riots in the state.
A Facebook user posted the viral post with a caption: ये कोई फ़िल्मी सीन नहीं मणिपुर में मोदी जी की डबल इंजन की सरकार है अब दलाल मीडिया और मोदी भक्त ये बताए कि यहाँ कौन सा विपक्ष और नेता गये थे भड़काने? कहावत है “नाच न जाने, आँगन टेढ़ा” देश बर्बाद कर दिया इन गोडसे की औलादों ने। (English translation: This is not a film scene, it is Modi ji‘s double engine government in Manipur. Now Dalal media and Modi bhakts should tell that which opposition and leaders had gone here to provoke? There is a proverb “Don’t know dance, the courtyard is crooked”. Running a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, we identified a tweet, dated April 29, 2023, by an unverified handle. The video matches exactly with the viral clip. The caption nowhere mentions that it’s from Manipur, and the date of posting also predates the start of the Manipur riots, i.e., May 3, 2023.
We also came across an Instagram post, dated July 5, 2020, showing the same video. Given that the video was posted about 3 years ago, it is certain that the video is not related to the ongoing Manipur riots. We could not verify the original source of the video
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming three men opened firing at night in the ongoing Manipur violence, is false.
