Tim Cook To Inaugurate India’s First Apple Stores, Likely To Meet PM Modi

Date:

New Delhi: As Apple Inc. plans on expanding its operations in India, company’s CEO Tim Cook has reportedly scheduled a trip to open the iPhone maker’s first retail store in India next week.

According to a Bloomberg report, Tim Cook is likely to visit India to open the company’s twin outlets, one in Mumbai and another in the national capital. The store in Mumbai will be opened on April 18 followed by another opening in Delhi on April 20.

The report further pointed out that between the inaugurations of the two stores, Tim Cook has sought a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi amid the government’s push towards electronic manufacturing in the country.

Earlier, Tim Cook claimed India to be a “hugely exciting market for us and is a major focus,”. He further added, “I’m very bullish on India.”

Apple witnessed a quarterly revenue record in India for October to December, with double-digit year-over-year growth. The development comes amid otherwise gloomy results announced on Thursday, including production headwinds in China and weakening global consumer demand dealt the company its first revenue drop in more than three years.
