Rahul Gandhi Gets Notice To Vacate Government Bungalow

Date:

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has reportedly received a notice to vacate his assigned Tughlaq lane bungalow, days after being disqualified as a member of parliament over the Gujarat court’s verdict in criminal defamation case against him.

The Lok Sabha Housing Committee has given notice to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to vacate the government-allotted bungalow.

Mohit Rajan, Deputy Secretary, Lok Sabha Secretariat, in a notice to Rahul Gandhi said that “I am directed to state that you are allowed to retain Bungalow No.12 Tughlaq Lane Road along with its units, in which you have continued to stay as your regular accommodation in the capacity of Member of Lok Sabha, for a maximum period of one month, i.e upto 22.04.2023”.

The rule around the disqualification states that a disqualified parliamentarian isn’t entitled to a government accommodation, and is given a 30-day notice period to vacate the premises.

Reacting to the move, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari said that “This shows BJP’s hatred towards Rahul Gandhi. For a period of 30 days after the notice is served, one can rightfully continue to stay in the same house. After the 30-day time period, one can continue to stay in the same house by paying rent at market rates. Rahul Gandhi comes under ‘Z’ plus security category.”
