PM Modi, Sheikh Hasina Jointly Inaugurate India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina inaugurate the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline on Saturday via video conferencing.

“I am confident that this pipeline will further speed up the development of Bangladesh and be an excellent example of the increasing connectivity between both the countries,” says PM Narendra Modi at the inauguration of India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline.

The PM also said that in last few years, under the able leadership of PM Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has made remarkable progress adding that India is delighted to be able to contribute to this development journey of Bangladesh.
The India-Bangladesh friendship pipeline was initiated in Sep 2018. The pipeline will now provide Northern West Bengal districts, 1 million metric tonnes of high-speed diesel, the initiative is to reduce the cost and will also reduce the carbon footprint of the supply.
PM Modi said “Today is the start of a new edition of relations between India and Bangladesh.”

The pipeline has been built at an estimated cost of 377 crore. Bangladesh’s section of the pipeline cost 285 crore and is 131.5-km long.

The supply will start on an experimental basis in June this year.
