Amid Spike In COVID Cases, Centre Asks Six States To Keep Strict Watch

Date:

New Delhi: Amid the recent spike recorded in the number of COVID-related cases in the country, centre asked the six most-affected states which include Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka to stress on testing, treating, tracking, and vaccination.

The Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan in a letter to the states said that “There are a few states which are reporting higher numbers of cases indicating possible localized spread of infection,”.

The letter advised states to assess the situation on the ground and focus on the implementation of measures for prompt and effective management of the disease.

According to reports, more than 700 cases were recorded in a day after a gap of four months, taking the active caseload to 4,623 cases.

According to PTI, the letter stressed the need to monitor emerging clusters of new Covid-19 cases, influenza-like illnesses, and severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) cases in all health facilities.

The report further added that “It is essential that the state must maintain a strict watch and take pre-emptive action if required in any areas of concern to control emerging spread of infection,”.

The ministry also advised that monitoring can be done through dedicated fever clinics on a regular basis for detecting early warning signals of the spread of infection.
