Fact Check: Viral Video Of Gujarat Clash Falsely Linked To Bihar Migrant Workers in TN

Date:

Amid recent rumours of an alleged attack on Bihar migrant workers in Tamil Nadu, a video showing a violent clash between two groups is widely shared on social media claiming that it is from Tamil Nadu.

The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “Thank you Tamil Nadu police kya dekh raha hai bhai tum” (English translation: Thank you Tamil Nadu police, what are you looking at brother?)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MISLEADING.

Running the Reverse Image Search with relevant keywords, we traced a news report by Zee News carrying a longer version of the viral video on July 26, 2022, with a caption: “Swords were waved in a clash between two groups in Surendranagar from Gujarat.

There is an atmosphere of panic in the area. It is being told that many people have been injured in this clash. Now the video of the incident is going viral on social media.”

The same video was also tweeted by the official handle of TV9 Gujarati on July 25, 2022, with a caption: “Clash breaks out between 2 groups in #Surendranagar, Shocking CCTV comes to the fore. #Gujarat”

Thus, it is evident from the above information that an old and unrelated video is falsely linked to the alleged attack on Bihar migrant workers in Tamil Nadu.
