A viral screenshot of a tweet claiming that US President Joe Biden has called for a national draft (mandatory enrolment of individuals into the armed forces) to fight the war in Ukraine, is doing the rounds on social media. Many users have shared the screenshot criticising Biden for forcefully pushing Americans into supporting Ukraine.
A Facebook user posted the viral screenshot with a caption: BREAKING: Biden calls for a national draft. Men and women are to be selected to fight in Ukraine.
BIDEN: “The recommended way forward will be to invoke the Selective Service Act, as is my authority as president.”

The tweet in the screenshot was posted by a profile named ThePatriotOasis. We checked on Twitter and found the same tweet, dated February 28, 2023, with a video attached to it.
In the video, Biden says: “The illegal Russian offensive has been swift, callous and brutal. It’s barbaric. Putin’s illegal occupation of Kyiv and the impending Chinese blockade of Taiwan have created a two-front national security crisis that require more troops than the volunteer military can supply. I have received guidance from General Milly, chairman of the Joint Chiefs, that the recommended way forward will be to invoke the Selective Service Act, as is my authority as president.”
This indicates that the viral claim might be true, but just after Biden’s speech a man comes up and informs that the speech in the video was AI-generated. He further states “That was an AI, I don’t want to say recreation, but maybe a pre-creation of President Biden, designed and scripted by our producers here for the show of what could happen if President Biden were to declare and activate the Selective Service Act, begin drafting 20-year-olds here in the United States.”
The same video had been published on another Twitter profile named The Post Millennial, dated February 27, 2023. The caption of the tweet clearly states that the video has been reimagined by AI on what would happen if Biden declares the Selective Service Act.
Conducting a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, we identified a Youtube video with a title: President Biden Delivers Remarks on Lowering Insulin Costs, published on December 8, 2021, on the official channel of The White House.
The visuals from the YouTube video match exactly with the viral clip, confirming that it is doctored to spread misinformation.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral video claiming that Biden has called for a national draft in the US to fight the war in Ukraine is false.
