Date:

After an earthquake of Magnitude 6.1 Earthquake struck Japan’s Hokkaido, a picture of a collapsed road is doing rounds on social media with a claim that it shows the aftermath of the earthquake in Japan.

The post read: इस बार जापान में भूकंप आया है. (English translation: This time there is an earthquake in Japan.)

Here’s the link to the above post.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the image to be old.

We ran a Reverse Image Search and found the same image in a report from April 2016.

We found the same image in a report by BBC and IBTime and dated April 2016. The caption read: The aerial view shows a collapsed road after an earthquake in Minami-Aso, Kumamoto prefecture, Japan, April 16, 2016. STR/AFP/GETTY IMAGE

According to the reports, two earthquakes of magnitude 6.4 and 7.3 struck Kumamoto City in Japan on April 15 & 16, 2016. The quake killed over 270 people and destroyed or partially damaged some 43,000 homes in Kumamoto and neighbouring Oita prefectures.

Thus, from the above information, it is clear that the image is not and is not related to the recent quake.
