Elections 2023: 63.91% Turnout In Meghalaya, 72.99% In Nagaland Till 3 PM | Highlights

Polling for Assembly elections in the northeastern states of Meghalaya and Nagaland is underway.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • According to Election Commission, 63.91% voter turnout was recorded in Meghalaya and 72.99% in Nagaland till 3pm.
  • According to official data from the Election Commission of India, Meghalaya recorded a voter turnout of 44.73 percent while Nagaland recorded a turnout of 57.06 percent till 11 am.
  • 59 seats are polling in each state.
  • Polling in Meghalaya’s Sohiong constituency was deferred after the death of a candidate.
  • Nagaland’s Akuluto has already got a BJP legislator after his Congress rival withdrew from the contest. Polling is being held at 3,419 polling stations in Meghalaya.
  • Of the 60 Assembly constituencies in Meghalaya, 36 constituencies fall in Khasi, Jaintia Hills region while 24 are in Garo Hills region.
  • In Meghalaya, there are over 21 lakh electorates (21,75,236) of which 10.99 lakh are women and 10.68 lahks are male voters.
  • In Meghalaya, the woman voters are in higher numbers than their male counterparts. There are about 81,000 first-time voters in the state.
  • The voting will continue till 4 pm on Monday.
  • The counting of votes will take place on March 2.
