FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral video, and found it to be misleading.

Closely looking at the video, we could notice that keyframes of the BJP members cheering for Modi might have been repeated and played on a loop. Conducting a Reverse Image Search of the viral video’s keyframes, we spotted a tweet on the official handle of Modi, dated February 8, 2023.

The tweet shows a speech by Modi given in the Lok Sabha. We can see that the keyframes starting at 2:57 match with the viral clip and here we see that Gadkari did clap initially before taking a pause.

The video in the tweet goes with the logo of Sansad TV in the top left corner. Sansad TV is the Parliamentary channel of India created in 2021 by merging Lok Sabha Television and Rajya Sabha Television. Searching their YouTube channel, we came across an approximately 1.5-hour-long video covering the entire speech by Modi in the Lok Sabha on February 8, 2023.

At around the 53:53 mark, we can see the viral video segment. Here too, we see that Gadkari did cheer for Modi by banging the table and then took a pause. It is evident from the viral video that the section when he doesn’t clap has been edited and played on repeat to spread misinformation.

Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral video claiming that Nitin Gadkari did not clap for Modi’s speech is misleading.
