Sunday Read | Karun Nair, Pietersen, And Other International Cricketers Who Were Dropped After Scoring Big Runs

Date:

New Delhi: Cricket in India has always been an affair of overpopulated crowd of professional and talented players trying to pave their way in the international scene with top players.

Karun Nair, once labeled as the future of the Indian test side after slamming unbeaten 303 runs against England in December 2017 is now finding it tough to find a place in the state Ranji side.

After being dropped from the Vijay Hazare squad and Syed Mushtaq Ali’s side, Nair penned down an emotional tweet saying “Dear cricket, give me one more chance.”

Here is the list of players who were dropped from International cricket after successful runs in innings:

Manoj Tiwari: A sensation from Bengal cricket, burst into the scene in 2008 and went on to play 12 ODIs and three T20Is. He scored an unbeaten century for India in 2011 but was dropped from the playing XI for 14 consecutive matches. In an interview with Star Sports, he said, “I also set a world record in this. Except for me, there would be no player who ended up winning Man of the Match and was forced to sit out the next 14 games. After that, when I played, I took four wickets and scored 65 runs while still not getting many chances.”

Kevin Pietersen: One of the most iconic batsmen of England, Kevin Pietersen was dropped from the side in 2012. However, the reason for dropping him from the team was reportedly due to bad-mouthing with teammates in the dressing room. He was dropped after he scored 149 against South Africa at the Headingley.

Jayant Yadav: Yadav who plays state-level from Haryana went on to score a power-packed century against England in Mumbai but was dropped from the team after sustaining a hamstring injury. He missed the rest of the series and is yet to make a comeback on the international side. He played IPL for Gujarat Titans in the last season.

Aravinda de Silva: The World Cup-winning Sri Lankan batsman was a sensation right from the start of his career. However, he was dropped from the test side after scoring a phenomenal double-ton against Bangladesh in 2002. He announced his retirement from test cricket which paved the way for newcomers including Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara.
