Shimla: Top party leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Sonia Gandhi were present as Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu took oath as the 15th Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge was also present at the mega event. Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri also took an oath with CM Sukhu. The campaign marks Priyanka Gandhi’s first major win as a campaign manager.

A four-time MLA, Sukhu, 58, is a former chief of Congress in the state and has been part of NSUI and Youth Congress.

He is a grassroots politician who has risen from the ranks and has wide organizational experience in the hill state.

He was the party’s state unit president from 2013 to 2019 and spoke his mind even if it was not to the liking of the party’s tall leader Virbhadra Singh, a six-time Chief Minister.

Rahul Gandhi congratulated State Congress President Pratibha Virbhadra Singh on the party’s victory to form the government in Himachal Pradesh. Reminding Rahul Gandhi that she has fulfilled the promise she made to him, “We had promised that we will get back Congress in Himachal Pradesh,” says State Congress chief Pratibha Virbhadra Singh to party leader Rahul Gandhi at Shimla.
