Date:

A viral image showing Polish footballer Robert Lewandowski giving an interview is doing the rounds on social media. Many users have shared the image, claiming that the footballer has predicted Brazil to win the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

A Facebook user posted the viral picture with a caption: সাংবাদিক: কাতার বিশ্বকাপে কার হাতে উঠবে আপনার মনে হয়? লেভানডক্সি: ‘অবশ্যই আমি বলবো ব্রাজিল সাংবাদিক: কেনো ব্রাজিল ফেবারিট মনে হলো? লেভানডক্সি: কারণ এই দলে নেইমারের মতো আরও ১০ টা নেইমার আছে (English translation: Journalist: Who do you think will win the World Cup in Qatar? FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral picture, and found it to be misleading.

Running a Reverse Image Search, we identified a tweet, dated December 1, 2022, on the official handle of Gaston Edul, a sports journalist from Argentina.

The picture in the tweet matches exactly with the viral image and the description translates to: Robert Lewandowski en @TyCSports : “I think Argentina deserved to go to the round of 16. Today they dominated us from start to finish”.

Also conducting a Google Keyword Search, we found a YouTube video, December 1, 2022, titled: Mano a mano con ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI: “Argentina va a mejorar partido tras partido”, on the official channel of Edul.

Going through the interview, we came to know that it was taken after the match between Argentina and Poland, which the former won 2-0. When asked whether the Polish team will qualify for the super 16, Lewandowski replied: “Yeah, of course, we played first good game. The second we went 2-0 against Saudi Arabia, so we know that if we work hard then we have a chance to play in the next round.

Nowhere during the entire interview, we could see Lewandowski claiming that Brazil will win the World Cup. We could not even find any credible news source confirming the same.

Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral picture, claiming Robert Lewandowski predicted Brazil to be the winner of the FIFA World Cup 2022, is fictitious.
