Centre Launches Facial Recognition Based Entry At Airport Through DigiYatra App, Checkout The Details

New Delhi: Air Travel in the country is set to get seamless and hassle-free as the centre launches DigiYatra on Thursday.

A mechanism that allows contactless, seamless processing of passengers at the airport based on Facial Recognition Technology (FRT).

The project aims toward the digital processing of passengers at airports. Passengers will be automatically processed based on facial recognition systems at checkpoints like; Entry point checks, Entry in, Security Check, and Aircraft Boarding. The facial recognition data could be linked with the boarding pass of the passengers.

In the first phase, It will be launched at three airports — Delhi, Bengaluru, and Varanasi followed by four airports namely Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, and Vijayawada by March 2023. Subsequently, the technology would be implemented across the country.

It will be available for domestic passengers presently in the current phases. To use this facility, a one-time registration on the Digi Yatra app is required using Aadhaar-based validation and a self-image capture.

There is no central storage of Personally Identifiable Information (PII). The passenger’s ID and travel credentials are stored in a secure wallet on the passenger’s smartphone itself.
