Twitter Labels Key Government Accounts As ‘Official’

Date:

Washington: Amid the recent updates on the microblogging site Twitter, the platform has started labeling Indian government handles and Indian media as “official” ahead of the roll-out of the Twitter Blue feature across the country.

Twitter handles of politicians and government organizations were marked with the label “official”. Accounts like Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s official handle, and Bharatiya Janata Party’s official handle was noticed with the label.

According to a New York Post report, Twitter’s executive Esther Crawford announced that he will roll out a second verification label to limit confusion between legitimate accounts and ones that pay for their blue ticks.

She said that verified accounts will now come with an “Official” label beneath their username, complete with a grey verification checkmark.

She further said that the label will help the users to distinguish between official accounts and the Twitter Blue subscription, which is taking over the blue check previously used for verified accounts.

She added that official pages will be designated for “government accounts, commercial companies, business partners, major media outlets, publishers, and some public figures,”.

However, the platform has not announced the process followed by them to designate the accounts.
