This search directed us to the official Twitter handle of the ‘Office of JP Nadda’ which carried the full speech on October 16, 2022, given at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi. In this speech at 7 minutes, JP Nadda says that “Since the establishment of Jana Sangh in the 1950s, the ethos, thinking and methods of all the parties have changed but the Bharatiya Janata Party is the only party, which was started 1951-52, believes that two constitutions will not work in one country.”

In fact, BJP was earlier known as Jan Sangh and Nadda was talking about his party’s point of view on the issue of Kashmir in this rally. After the merger of the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir in India, some special rights were given to this province under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution. On August 5, 2019, the central government abolished the special status of the state.
The ‘Bharatiya Jan Sangh’ was established in the year 1952 as the political wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. It also won three seats in the first Lok Sabha elections. After this, in the general elections held after the Emergency in the year 1977, the ‘Bharatiya Jana Sangh’ merged with the ‘Janata Party’ and formed several opposition parties. After the breakup of ‘Janata Party’ in the year 1979, ‘Bharatiya Jana Sangh’ came out with a new name ‘Bharatiya Janata Party’ in the year 1980. That is, the present BJP may have been established in 1980 but its history is associated with ‘Bharatiya Jan Sangh’.
