Fact Check: Old Video of Modi’s Wax Statue Preparation Viral with Misleading Claim

A video is doing the rounds on social media showing few women taking measurements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The post is being circulated with a claim that a lot of money is being spent on PM Modi’s grooming.

Facebook users are sharing the video with a caption: चलो टीशर्ट का मान लिया महंगी पहन लिया,पर ये मेकअप किस बात के लिए हो रहा है इसे कौन सी शादी रचानी थी और इसका सारा खर्चा कहा से आ रहा है।। (English translation: Okay, I accepted the T-shirt, that it could be an expensive one, but what is this make-up for? What wedding was it supposed to create and where are all the expenses coming from?)

NewsMobile fact-checked the post, and found it to be misleading.

Extracting keyframes of the video and putting them through a Reverse Image Search, we found a video posted by ‘Madame Tussauds Singapore’ on YouTube, dated on May 19, 2016.

The video is titled: ‘Making of Narendra Modi’s figure – Madame Tussauds Singapore’ and the description reads: ‘Curious to know the process of making Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s figure? Then watch this video!’.

We also found a similar image on the website of Madame Tussauds Singapore.

Thus, it is clear that the video is of artists taking measurements for PM Modi’s WAX statue and the post is being shared with misleading claims.
