IMD Issues Orange Alert In Himachal Amid Heavy Rainfall, Flood-Like Situation In Odisha

New Delhi: Amid the continuous rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert across the state for the next 12 hours.

The data released by the Disaster Management Authority, Himachal Pradesh, confirmed the death of 22 people. The data further added that six people are still missing.

Flash Floods have impacted 30 different locations across the state. Several houses were damaged in Mandi, Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Hamirpur and Shimla.

The continuous rainfall in Mandi region led to roadblocks for several hours. Several tourists were stranded in the region due to the rain.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur took to Twitter and added that officials have been asked to take steps for immediate relief and rescue work and that the state government will urge the Centre to send an additional team for relief and rehabilitation works.

He has also directed all the line departments for maintaining proper coordination for effective rescue operations. He directed the Deputy Commissioners to take decisions regarding the closure of schools in their respective districts as per requirement.

Meanwhile, rain continues to further impact Odisha’s Mayurbhanj and Balasore region.

Situation continues to remain grim in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj and Balasore region. According to reports, the Subarnarekha river continues to swell following instances of rainfall and release of water from the Jharkhand Galudih Barrage.

According to a report by PTI, special teams of NDRF and ODRAF have been sent to Balasore to aid the relief operations in the region.
