AIFF Suspension: Supreme Court Adjourns Hearing Till August 22

Date:

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned the hearing to August 22 on the issue related to FIFA suspending the All India Football Federation (AIFF).

The matter was adjourned by the apex court at the request of the Centre’s Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta. SG further pointed out to the court that several factors are to be considered in the matter.

The bench comprising Justices DY Chandrachud, AS Bopanna, and JB Pardiwala adjourned the hearing after the Solicitor General added that a round of active discussion is necessary to resolve the issue between FIFA and the Government of India.

He further pointed out that some “breaking of ice” has taken place between the sides. According to reports, the Solicitor General further pointed out that the Committee of Administrators has played a key role in the ongoing discussion.

The Supreme Court asked the Centre to take proactive measures to ensure the holding of the Under-17 World Cup and lifting the suspension of the All India Football Federation.

The court further observed that “our focus is that the country should have this event (Under-17 Women’s World Cup) and it is really good for the Under 17 athletes.”
