Google Street View Makes Return In 10 Indian Cities With Data Privacy

Date:

Google Maps launched its panoramic Street View service in 10 Indian cities in partnership with Tech Mahindra and Genesys, on Wednesday.

Google Maps’ Street View provides 360-degree views of streets all over the world using pictures taken by moving automobiles.

The government rejected Google’s requests for approval due to security issues but it returned to India after being denied permission for a full-scale launch in 2016.

As per Google, its partners have covered over 150,000 km spanning 10 cities in India, including Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Nashik, Vadodara, Ahmednagar, and Amritsar.

The service will be extended to more than 50 locations by the end of 2022, said in a press meeting.

In order to keep privacy concerns, Street View imagery will block out people’s faces and registration plates, said the Vice President of Google Maps Experiences.

Google also announced a partnership with the Central Pollution Control Board of India to provide air quality data via maps.

To launch Street View, simply open Google Maps, zoom into a road in any of these target cities, and press the area you choose to view to start Street View. Know about the local coffee shops and cultural hubs, or explore the neighborhood. You may explore and navigate new areas of the country and the world with the assistance of Street View in a more realistic and visual manner, giving you the opportunity to fully experience these locations from your phone or computer.
