Dr. Jitendra Singh informed Rajya Sabha that the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is working to create indigenous capabilities for space tourism through the demonstration of human space flight capacity to Low Earth Orbit (LEO).
He said that ‘IN-SPACe’ also aims to encourage the private sector’s active participation in carrying out end-to-end space projects which includes space tourism as well.
Under the Department of Space, the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) serves as a single point of contact for promoting, guiding, authorizing private sector activities in the space industry.
For indigenous space tourism to become a reality in India, as the Minister suggested, It would take decades, significant funding, and sincere commitment to the cause of space tourism, this would require the Gaganyaan program to be successful repeatedly, the development and successful launch of a reusable rocket, etc.
