Date:

New Delhi: In a major step to boost the administration of precautionary COVID booster doses, the central government on Wednesday announced that free booster doses will be administered from 15th July for 75 days, for the age groups above 18 years old to mark the “Azadi ka Amrit Kaal”.

As India marks 75 years of Independence and celebrates “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” this year, Union Minister Anurag Thakur announced that “it has been decided that from 15th July 2022 till the next 75 days, citizens above 18 years of age will be given booster doses free of cost.”

According to a PTI report, less than one percent of the target group of 18-59 years old have administered the precautionary COVID dose. The report further claimed that the majority of the general Indian population got their required second dose of vaccination nine months ago.

The report further quoted that “The government is starting a special drive of 75 days for individuals between the age group of 18-59 years will be administered free precautionary doses at government vaccination centers from July 15th.”

Earlier this month, the central government reduced the required gap between the second and the precautionary dose from nine months to six months.
