Venkatesh Prasad Takes A Dig At Selection Of Indian Team

Date:

New Delhi: India won the T20 series after concluding with a loss in the last game against England on Sunday.

Virat Kohli continues to struggle to get back in his form after getting dismissed for eleven runs in the final game of the T20 series against England. Including the last game, Kohli has failed to shine and get a hundred in 77 international games across all formats.

Veteran Indian bowler Venkatesh Prasad took a dig at the All India Selection Committee for resting out-of-form players in the upcoming series against West Indies.

The veteran cricketer added his views in a tweet saying that “There was a time when you were out of form, you would be dropped irrespective of reputation. Sourav, Sehwag, Yuvraj, Zaheer, and Bhajji all have been dropped when not in form. They have went back to domestic cricket, scored runs, and staged a comeback.”

He also added that it seems that the yardstick has changed drastically now, where players are getting rest for being out of form. He further expressed that this will not result in any progress in the situation.

He also added that “There is so much talent in the country and cannot play on reputation. One of India’s greatest match-winners, Anil Kumble sat out on so many occasions, need action’s for the larger good.”

Other veterans of the game like Kapil Dev and Ajay Jadeja also expressed their concern over Kohli’s current form and suggested dropping the Indian batter from the team.

On the other hand, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma gave a strong reply when asked to comment on Kohli’s performance and form. On experts’ opinion, Rohit said that they are watching the game from the outside and they don’t know the thought process behind team selection. Talking about his form he said that “every player goes through ups and downs… We need to back the quality of players.”
