New Delhi: A poster of a documentary film “Kaali” directed by a Canada-based filmmaker Leena Manimekalai has stirred up controversy across the country for portraying Hindu goddess disrespectfully in a poster “smoking a cigarette” and carrying a pride flag in the background.

  • Uttar Pradesh Police has lodged an FIR against director Leena Manimekalai for deliberately hurting religious sentiments.
  • The FIR was lodged at the Hazratganj Police Station on charges of criminal conspiracy, offense in the place of worship, deliberately hurting religious sentiments, and intention to provoke breach of peace.
  • A massive outrage was observed on social media against the director with people demanding her immediate arrest.
  • Delhi Police’s IFSO unit has also lodged an FIR under Section 153A and 295A of IPC.
  • The Indian High Commission on Monday urged the Canadian authorities to withdraw the disrespectful depiction of the Hindu Goddess showcased at the Agha Museum.
