She And Her Loose Tongue Set Entire Country On Fire: SC Slams Nupur Sharma

Date:

New Delhi: Supreme Court on Friday refused to grant relief to suspended BJP leader Nupur for transferring all FIRs registered against her to Delhi.

Sharma moved the Supreme Court seeking the transfer of all the FIRs registered against her, across several states over her controversial remark on prophet Mohammad, to Delhi for investigation stating that she was constantly facing life threats.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • During the hearing, the apex court slammed Sharma for her comments asking her to apologise to the whole country, as per newswire ANI.
  • The court was quoted by ANI as saying, “she and her loose tongue has set the entire country on fire. Her outburst is responsible for the unfortunate incident at Udaipur, where a tailor was murdered”.
  • Senior advocate Maninder Singh, appearing for Nupur Sharma, told the Supreme Court that she apologised for the remarks and withdrew the comments. To which the Supreme Court said, “she should have gone to the TV and apologised to the nation”.
  • “She (Nupur Sharma) was too late to apologise and withdraw the statement,” the court added.
  • When Nupur Sharma’s advocate told the court that she has a threat to her life, Justice Surya Kant said “she has threat or she has become a security threat? The way she has ignited emotions across the country, she is single-handedly responsible for what is happening in the country.”
  • “When you lodge a complaint against someone, that person is arrested but nobody dares to touch you that shows your clout,” Supreme Court added.
  • Meanwhile, Nupur Sharma withdrew her plea from the apex court.
