Fact Check: Nana Patekar Did NOT Tweet on the Maharashtra Political Crisis

Amid the ongoing political crisis in Maharashtra, screenshot of a tweet, purportedly done by Bollywood actor Nana Patekar, has gone viral on social media.

The sarcastic tweet reads: ” ‘महाराष्ट्र’ में अब भी ‘भाजपा’ की ‘सरकार’ नहीं बनती है तो मेरा ‘पैसों’ से ‘विश्वास’ उठ जायेगा” (English translation: If ‘BJP’ still does not form the ‘government’ in ‘Maharashtra’, then I will lose trust in ‘money’.)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile did a fact-check, and found it to be fake.

On closely observing the tweet, we found that it was done from a Twitter handle @NanaPatekar1, and not verified. The Twitter bio of @NanaPatekar1 also clarifies that it is a parody account.

And the viral tweet was posted from this Twitter account on June 26, 2022.

In fact, the official Twitter handle of Nana Patekar is @nanagpatekar. Scanning through his profile, it was found that he has done no tweets on the Maharashtra political crisis.

So, it’s confirmed that the viral tweet is from a parody account, and not by Nana Patekar.
