First monsoon rains are expected to arrive in Delhi-NCR on June 30 or July 1, as per the India Meteorological Department Tuesday’s bulletin.
The first 10 days of the Delhi-NCR monsoon are predicted to yield good rain.
Pre-monsoon convection may lead to light rainfall in the national capital today, Wednesday, evening and provide relief from the heat. A moderate rainfall forecast for the city on June 30 has been issued by the IMD as an orange alert. By July 1, the highest temperature will drop to 33-34 degrees Celsius.
In the next 24 hours, there is a high possibility that the monsoon will move into Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir. easterly winds, moisture intrusion, and convective activity have increased in the region.
IMD forecasts West Rajasthan and Punjab likely get heavy rainfall on July 1, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi on June 30 and July 1, Uttarakhand on July 1 and July 2. Heavy rainfall is also predicted over Uttar Pradesh on June 29 and July 1and over Himachal Pradesh on July 1 and July 2.

Senior IMD Scientist RK Jenamani quoted as saying, “We expect the conditions to remain favorable for the further advance of the monsoon in the remaining parts of Utar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi in the subsequent 48 hours.”
