IPL Broadcasting Rights Sold For ₹48,390 Crores, Confirms Jay Shah

Mumbai: The bidding war for the IPL broadcasting rights comes to an end with Viacom bagging the digital rights for ₹23,758 crores for digital rights and TV rights went to Star India for ₹23,575 crores on Tuesday.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah in a series of tweets confirmed the end of bidding and names of winners for the broadcast rights of the Indian Premier League for the next five seasons.

He tweeted that “I thank all the bidders for their active interest in securing the IPL Media Rights. As a key stakeholder, the BCCI will do everything possible to help you realize the full value of your investments.”

He further added that Viacom 18 has bagged digital rights as well as broadcasting rights in Australia, the United Kingdom, and South Africa saying that “IPL is popular outside India.”

He further stated that the BCCI will utilize the revenue generated from IPL to strengthen our domestic cricket structure starting from the grassroots, to boost infrastructure and spruce up facilities across India, and enrich the overall cricket-watching experience.

With the end of the e-auction, IPL becomes the second most valued sporting event in the world in terms of per match value.
