Recently, a small video clip is being widely shared on social media platforms with a caption suggesting that leopards were spotted in Chandigarh and Mohali. In the video, one can see a police officer urging people to remain vigilant fearing possibility of leopard attack.

A Facebook user shared the video with a caption saying, “Punjab Police has made an announcement that two leopards have entered Chandigarh and Mohali.”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the video and found it to be shared with a misleading claim.

We performed a Reverse Image Search and found the same visuals in a news report by Dainik Savera, which was uploaded on YouTube on April 2, 2020. The title of the video suggests that a police officer is making a public awareness announcement after leopards were seen at Chandigarh and Mohali.

On checking further, we found several articles reporting the incident back in March and April 2020. According to a report by news channel Aaj Tak, a leopard was spotted in Sector 5 area of Chandigarh on March 30, 2020. A similar incident was reported from Mohali in April 2020.

Therefore, with the above information, it can be concluded that the viral video is two years old.
