Women’s CWC 2022: India Lose To South Africa By Three Wickets, Fail To Qualify For Semis

South Africa Women’s Team beat Indian Women Team by 3 wickets in a last-over thriller match in the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup at Hagley Oval, eliminating India from the tournament as West Indies has an edge of points over India.

India women’s team won the toss and decided to bat first. Smriti Mandhana and Shefali Verma set the tone by scoring 71 and 53 runs respectively. Skipper Mithali Raj scored 68 runs while Harmanpreet joined the task and scored a crucial 48 runs taking the team total to 274 runs in 50 overs. Masabata Klass and Shabnim Ismail bagged 2 wickets each for the South African team.

Laura Woolwordt played an outstanding knock of 80 runs off 79 balls while chasing the total in the second innings. Lara Goodall added 49 runs to the total. Finally, Mignon du Preez played the most crucial innings of 52 runs off 63 deliveries chasing down the total set by India in the last ball. The Indian bowling attack fell apart in front of the crucial partnerships by the South Africa Women’s team. Rajeshwari Gaykwad and Harmanpreet Kaur bagged two wickets each.

Mignon du Preez was awarded player of the match for her unbeaten half-century and her role in finishing the game.

With this win, South Africa ended India’s campaign at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 and set up their semi-final clash against unbeaten Australia.
