FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral image and found it to be shared with a misleading claim.

On performing a Reverse Image Search we found the image carried in a tweet by news agency ANI on June 22, 2017. “Chennai: Students who built the world’s smallest satellite, rejoice after its launch. The satellite weighing 64 grams was launched by NASA,” reads the caption.

The Indian Express also reported the incident on June 23, 2017.

According to the report, NASA launched the world’s smallest satellite designed by Tamil Nadu student Rifath Shaarook and his team on June 21, 2017. Named as Kalamsat, after former President APJ Abdul Kalam, the tiny satellite weighs around 64 grams. The satellite was flown into space in a NASA-sounding rocket from a NASA facility in Wallops Island.

Hence, with the above information, it can be concluded that the claim is misleading.
