Fact Check: Is This The ‘Best Signature’ As Per UNESCO? Here’s The Truth

Date:

Recently, an image of an artistic signature has surfaced on social media platforms with a claim the signature is of Sub-Registrar of Honavar in Karnataka and UNESCO has declared it as the ‘best’ signature in the world.

A Facebook user shared the image with a caption saying, “#SpectacularSignature
UNESCO has declared Sub-Registrar Honavar in Karnataka, India, to have the most spectacular signature in the World…”

The image is doing rounds on Twitter with the same caption.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post and found it to be misleading.

We checked the UNESCO website and performed several keyword searches but did not find any such recognition for best signature.

We also checked online but did not find any credible news report substantiating the viral claim.

On performing Reverse Image Search, we found a news report uploaded on the official YouTube channel of OneIndia Kannada on August 6, 2018. The report talked about Honnavar Sub Registrar Officer Shanthayya who is famous for his artistic signature. In the video, he also shows how he makes his signature, and that image is now going viral. However, the report has no mention about UNESCO.

Hence, with the above information, it can be concluded that the viral claim is misleading.
