Fact Check: Russian Music Video Shared With False Claim Of Showing ‘Fake Dead Bodies’ In Ukraine

Date:

Ever since Russia attacked Ukraine, Russian state media and Russian supporters are claiming that videos of bombing and casualties in Ukraine are false and have been staged by the Ukrainian government.

In this backdrop, a video showing corpses wrapped in black bags inside a truck is being shared on social media. The video also shows one of the ‘corpse’ smoking, which is being shared as ‘fake’ dead bodies in Ukraine.

The video was shared with the caption, “USA news channels are displaying several dead bodies in Ukraine… Look at video closely, one dead body is smoking a cigarette … Seems like the whole world has such presstitutes…”

Here is the link to the above post.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found it to be fake.

After doing a Reverse Image Search of one of the keyframes, we came across several links to the same video, including one on DailyMotion.

We noticed that the video belonged to the TikTok handle, ‘vasyaivanovdesigns’. But TikTok is banned in India. So, we could not check the original clip on it. So we ran a search on the name of the uploader– Vasya Ivanov.

We looked up Vasya Ivanov on Google and came across his Instagram profile. Ivanov is a production designer and he had uploaded a picture of corpses in black bags hanging from a building, which looked similar to the one in the viral video, in October 2020.

According to the caption of the image, the set-up was a part of a shoot for a music video for a rapper, Husky and his song ‘Ever’.

We looked up the music video on YouTube and noticed that one of the scenes had the same orange truck as the one in the viral video.

Further, the Instagram post indicated that the shoot took place at the Moscow Regional Research Clinical Institute. We looked up the location on Google Maps and found that the building looked similar to the one in the viral video.

The Russian television network, Ren TV had also reported in September 2020 that the shooting of the video caused quite a stir in the area as residents felt uncomfortable with the corpses hanging from the hospital building. “Producer Mikhail Marizov noted that mannequins are used in the work,” the article read.

Russian news website, ‘Life Новости’ had also reported about the music video.

NewsMobile debunked the same video in April 2021, when it was falsely linked to COVID-19.

Hence, from the above investigation, it is evident that a video of the behind-the-scenes action for a music video has been falsely shared as ‘fake’ dead bodies in Ukraine.
