Fact Check: Three-Year-Old Image Falsely Linked To Canada’s Ongoing Anti-Vaccine Mandate Protest

Date:

Massive protests against COVID-19 vaccine mandate have rocked Canada for over a month now. Canadian truckers protesting against these measures have coined the protest as Freedom Convoy. In this backdrop, a photograph has surfaced on social media platforms showing a convoy of trucks with the claim it shows the ‘Freedom Convoy’.

A Facebook user shared the image with some text written on it that says, “Huge shoutout to mainstream media for downplaying the convoy. Huge shoutout to the towns and cities that shut their traffic cameras off when the convoy went through. Huge shoutout to Justin Trudeau for hiding in his bedroom just before the convoy gets to Ottawa. Huge shoutout to Facebook for deleting the original convoy page. Huge shoutout to GoFundMe for trying to tie up the money that’s for the truckers and their support. You’ve all shown how important this convoy really is.”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral image and found that it is not connected to the recent truckers’ protest in Canada.

With the help of a Reverse Image Search, we found this image in a CTC News report that was published on February 14, 2019. “Truck convoy heads to Ottawa to protest lack of pipeline progress,” reads the title of the article.

As per the report, a convoy of Canadian truckers called “United We Roll” drove to Ottawa and protested against Canadian government’s energy policies in 2019.

Therefore, it can be concluded that a three-year-old image is being falsely linked to the ongoing anti vaccine mandate protest in Canada.
