Markets Shut, Roads Empty On First Day Of Weekend Curfew In Delhi

As the COVID-19 cases have surged in Delhi the government has announced a weekend curfew. The curfew started from 10 pm on Friday and will be in place till 5 am on Monday. Only those involved in essential services and the emergency situation will be allowed to stay out of their homes. 

Delhi Police has done the barricading and checking is being done at the Delhi-Noida Border.


Shopping markets at Lajpat Nagar are also closed amid the curfew.

Delhi police also tweeted that those who want to step out of houses will have to produce valid identity cards or e-passes issued by the government. Those who have any essential work and does not fall under the exempted categories will have to get an e-pass issued by the Delhi government. Delhi police tweeted, “Some #CurfewFAQ queries we received have been answered below.  Please adhere to the Weekend Curfew guidelines and follow #COVID19 appropriate behaviour. Stay safe!”


Delhi reported 17,335 fresh cases with the positivity rate being recorded at 17.73 per cent on Friday.  Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said that the national capital is estimated to report nearly 20,000 fresh COVID-19 cases today with the rise in positivity rate by 1 to 2 per cent from Friday.

Delhi also observed overnight rainfall and thunderstorm due to which the air quality of the national capital improved from the ‘poor’ category to ‘moderate’ with the Air Quality Index (AQI) standing at 132.
