FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found it to be misleading.

We extracted keyframes from the video and ran them through Reverse Image Search. The search led us to the same video uploaded on YouTube on Aug 5, 2020, by the verified YouTube channel of VOA News.

“Lebanon: Video Captures Moment of Beirut Explosion,” the video title read.

“A massive explosion rocked Beirut, Tuesday, August 4, flattening much of the port, damaging buildings across the capital and sending a giant mushroom cloud into the sky,” the description of the video stated.

VOA News accredited the video to Twitter user Ahmad M. Yassine. We searched his profile and found that he posted the video on August 4, 2020.

The same video was also featured in a video report by Al Arabiya English, where they had compiled videos of the same explosion from different angles.

On August 4, 2020, a large amount of ammonium nitrate stored at the port of the city of Beirut, Lebanon, exploded, leaving at least 207 people dead and 7,500 injured. Reports mentioned that as many as 3,00,000 people were left temporarily homeless.
As for the recent explosion in China, a gas pipeline exploded in a residential community in central China. Reuters reported that  ‘the explosion caused a food market building to collapse at 6:30 a.m., local media reported. Footage from CCTV shows wreckage and shattered glass covering the first floor of the collapsed building, where people were having breakfast and buying groceries when explosion happened’.

Hence, from the above information, we can conclude that the post is misleading as the video in circulation is not of the recent gas pipeline explosion in China.
